Join CatMatX Lab

The CatMatX Lab is a dynamic, international, and inclusive research environment dedicated to groundbreaking studies in catalytic materials. We are constantly looking for talented and motivated individuals – from students just starting their careers to established researchers – to join us in Denmark and contribute to building a climate-neutral future.

If you are curious, creative, motivated, and passionate about materials chemistry and sustainable technologies, and are seeking the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research projects, we ask you to get in touch with us

The Bachelor’s and Master’s Students

Students who wish to carry out their thesis projects in our group are encouraged to explore our current research themes. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in materials synthesis, characterization, and catalytic testing, while working in a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment. Those interested in joining our group are invited to contact the research group leader via email, including a brief motivation letter, a short description of the topic of interest, a list of completed courses or modules, and the preferred time period for the thesis project. While we particularly encourage students from Danish universities to apply, highly motivated international students are also welcome.

Exchange Students

Our university actively participates in various international programs and research networks, and we are pleased to host Erasmus+ and other exchange students who wish to gain international research experience in Denmark. Students interested in joining our group for exchange studies, advanced laboratory courses, or thesis projects are encouraged to verify whether our university is a member or partner university within the relevant program. Visiting students will work on a defined research project under the supervision of a group member and will be fully integrated into our laboratory activities. Prospective students are invited to contact the research group leader via email, including a brief motivation letter, a short description of the topic of interest, a list of completed courses or modules, and the preferred time period for their stay. Exchange students are responsible for securing their own funding through their home institutions or external grants.

PhD Students

Our group offers opportunities for doctoral studies through national and international funding schemes. PhD projects typically focus on advanced synthesis, crystal structure analysis, materials characterization, and mechanistic understanding of catalytic processes. Open PhD positions are advertised directly on the university’s official job portal (https://www.sdu.dk/en/forskning/phd) and other international academic job portals. If no PhD positions are currently available, prospective candidates are still welcome to get in touch to discuss potential projects or explore external funding possibilities, such as the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the Villum Foundation, Danish Advanced Research Academy (DARA), other PhD fellowship programs, and even self-financing. When contacting the research group leader, please include a short motivation outlining your research interests and fit with the group, your CV and publication list (if available), academic transcripts, and potential funding sources you wish to pursue.

Postdoctoral researchers

We welcome talented, creative, and independent researchers with expertise in materials chemistry, crystal structure analysis, catalysis, or related fields. Postdoctoral fellows in our group have the opportunity to pursue their own research ideas while contributing to ongoing projects and mentoring students within an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment. Open postdoctoral positions are announced on the university’s official job portal (https://www.sdu.dk/en/om-sdu/job-sdu) and on other international academic job platforms. When no positions are currently available, prospective candidates are still encouraged to reach out to discuss potential research projects or explore external funding opportunities. Relevant fellowship schemes include the Villum International Postdoc Program, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), the Novo Nordisk Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships, the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF), the Branco Weiss Fellowship, and the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP), as well as self-funded arrangements. Researchers interested in joining the group are invited to contact the group leader with a concise research statement outlining their proposed project, a curriculum vitae, including a list of publications, and details of possible funding sources. The group is committed to supporting strong candidates in the preparation of competitive fellowship applications.

Visiting Researchers

We warmly welcome both early-career researchers and experienced scientists from other institutions who wish to collaborate, undertake a research stay, or spend a sabbatical period in Denmark. Visiting scientists are encouraged to engage in ongoing projects, contribute their expertise to foster two-way knowledge transfer and training, and benefit from access to our research facilities and collaborative research environment. Those interested in joining the group are invited to contact the group leader by email, providing a brief overview of their academic background, research interests, the purpose and expected duration of the visit, and potential collaboration topics or funding opportunities. Formal invitation letters can be provided to support visa or fellowship applications when appropriate.
